Math Symbols and What They Mean

Math symbols—often tiny, indecipherable, and seemingly random—are all-important. Some math symbols are Greek and Latin letters, dating back centuries to ancient times. Others, like the plus, minus, times, and division symbols seem to be mere notations on a paper. Yet, symbols in math are essentially the instructions that drive this area of academics. And, they have true value in real life. A plus sign () can tell you if you are adding cash to your bank account, while a minus sign (-) may indicate trouble ahead—that you are subtracting funds and possibly in danger of running out of money. Parentheses, which in English punctuation indicate that youre inserting a nonessential thought into the sentence—mean just the opposite in math: that you should work whatever is within those two punctuation marks first, and only then do the rest of the problem. Read on to see what the common math symbols are, what the represent, and why theyre important. Common Math Symbols Here is a list of the most common symbols used in mathematics. Symbol What It Represents + Adding sign: Often referred to as the plus sign or the addition sign - Subtracting sign: Often referred to as the minus sign x Multiplication sign: Often referred to as the times or times table sign à · Division sign: To divide = Equal sign | | Absolute value ≠  Not equal to ( ) Parenthesis [ ] Square brackets % Percent sign: Out of 100 ∑ Big sum sign: Summation √ Square root sign Inequality sign: Less than Inequality sign: Greater than ! Factorial ÃŽ ¸ Theta Ï€ Pi ≅ Approximately ∅ Empty set ∠  Angle sign ! Factorial sign ∠´ Therefore ∞ Infinity Math Symbols in Real Life You use math symbols more than you realize in all areas of your life. As noted above, the difference between a plus or minus symbol in banking can indicate whether youre adding a wealth of funds to your bank account or in withdrawing funds. If youve ever used a  computer accounting spreadsheet, you likely know that the big sum sign (∑) gives you an easy—indeed instant—way to add an endless column of numbers. Pi, which is  denoted by the Greek letter Ï€, is used throughout the world of math, science, physics, architecture, and more. Despite the origins of pi in the subject of geometry, this number has applications throughout mathematics and even shows up in the subjects of statistics and probability. And the symbol for infinity (∞)  not only is an important math concept, but it also suggests the infinite expanse of the universe (in astronomy) or the infinite possibilities that come from every action or thought (in philosophy).   Tips for Symbols Although there are more symbols in math that are indicated in this list, these are some of the more common ones. Youll often need to use HTML code in order for the symbols to show up online, as many fonts do not support the use of mathematical symbols. However, youll find most of these on the graphing calculator as well. As you progress in math, youll begin to use these symbols more and more. If you plan to study math, it will be well worth your time—and indeed save you an infinite (∞) amount of this valuable resource—if you keep this table of math symbols handy.

How Should We Teach Kids Units of Measurement

A standard unit of measurement provides a reference point by which objects of weight, length, or capacity can be described. Although measurement is an important part of everyday life, kids dont automatically understand that there are many different ways to measure things. Standard vs Nonstandard Units A standard unit of measurement is a quantifiable language  that helps everyone understand the association of the object with the measurement. It is expressed in inches, feet, and pounds, in the United States, and centimeters, meters, and kilograms in the metric system. Volume is measured in ounces, cups, pints, quarts, and gallons in the U.S. and milliliters and liters in the metric system. In contrast, a nonstandard unit of measurement is something that may vary in length or weight. For instance, marbles are not reliable for finding out how heavy something is because each marble will weigh differently than the others. Likewise, a human foot cannot be used for measuring length because everyones foot is a different size. Standard Units and Young Children Young children might understand that the words â€Å"weight,† â€Å"height,† and â€Å"volume† are associated with measuring. It will take a while to understand that in order to compare and contrast objects  or to build to scale, everybody needs the same starting point. To begin, consider explaining to your child why a standard unit of measurement is necessary. For example, your child likely understands that he or she has a name, as do relatives, friends, and pets. Their names help identify who they are and show that they are a person. When describing a person, using identifiers, such as blue eyes, helps to specify the attributes of the person. Objects also have a name. Further identification and description of the object can be achieved through measurement units. The long table, for instance, may describe a table of some length, but it doesnt say how long the table actually is. The five-foot table is far more accurate. However, this is something that children will learn as they grow. A Nonstandard Measurement Experiment You can use two objects at home to demonstrate this concept: a table and a book. Both you and your child can participate in this measurement experiment.   Holding your hand rigid, measure the length of the table in hand spans. How many of your hand spans does it take to cover the length of the table? How many of your childs hand spans? Now, measure the length of the book in hand spans. Your child may notice that the number of hand spans required to measure the objects is different than the number of hand spans  it took for you to measure the objects. This is because your hands are different sizes, so you are not using a standard unit of measurement.   For your child’s purposes, measuring length and height in paper clips or hand spans, or using pennies in a homemade balance scale, may work well, but these are nonstandard measurements. A Standard Measurement Experiment Once your child understands that hand spans are nonstandard measurements, introduce the importance of a standard unit of measurement. You might, for instance, show your child to a one-foot ruler. At first, dont worry about the vocabulary or smaller measurements on the ruler, just the concept that this stick measures one foot.  Tell them that people they know (grandparents, teachers, etc.) can use a stick just like it to measure things in the exact same way. Let your child measure the table again. How many feet is it? Does it change when you measure it rather than your child? Explain that it doesnt matter who measures, everyone will get the same result. Move around your home and measure similar objects, such as the television, sofa, or bed. Next, help your child measure their own height, yours, and each member of your family. These familiar objects will help put into perspective the relationship between the ruler and the length or height of objects.   Concepts like weight and volume can come later and are not quite as easy to introduce to young children. However, the ruler is a tangible object that can easily be transported and used to measure larger objects around you. Many kids even come to see it as a fun game.

3 stages of the Holocaust - 1204 Words

The Holocaust systematically murdered 11 million people across Europe, more than half of those people were Jewish. The Jews were blamed for the German’s failures, such as World War I. As a result, Hitler established anti-Semitism throughout his army and the majority of Europe. The Holocaust consisted of three phases to annihilate the Jews. The phases did not create racial purity and they did not successfully annihilate all of the Jews as the Nazi party planned. The first phase began when the Nuremburg Laws were passed in 1935. These laws stripped Jews of their German citizenship, property, and jobs. Jews were required to wear a bright yellow Star of David attached to their clothing to make it easy for Nazis to identify them. The†¦show more content†¦Some of the Jews were able to hide out in the ghettos. Others were able to escape from the concentration camps. In some cases organized resistance was formed in the ghettos amongst the Jews. For example, in the Polish capi tol of Warsaw, individual Jews continued to hide themselves in the ghetto ruins for many months after they were forcefully told to leave by the Nazis. These resistance fighters often attacked German police officials on patrol. Approximately 20,000 Warsaw Jews continued to live in hiding in Warsaw long after the liquidation of the ghetto. The third phase of the holocaust was known as the final stage. In 1942 at a meeting held in Wannsee Poland, Hitler’s top officials agreed to begin a new phase of the mass murder of Jews. In addition to mass slaughter and starvation they would add a third method of killing. This third method was committing murder by poisonous gas. As deadly as overwork, starvation, beatings, and bullets were, they did not kill fast enough to satisfy the Nazis. The Germans built six death camps in Poland. The first, Chelmno began operating in 1941, before the meeting at Wannsee. Each camp had several large gas chambers in which as many as 12,000 people could b e killed a day. With the help of the data management and knowledge management system the company can ensure to introduce the best system through which the use of knowledge can be improved. It is essential to introduce an effective method for improving the learning methods, which will take care of the needs of the company. The process helps the management to gain from the past performance. Information resources can be re-conveyed and used for various purposes. This is one of the most important factors that would help the management to upgrade the skills that is required for execution of the task. I some cases, it is necessary to use information generated from department in executing the task with the other department. For this, the management can introduce an effective learning method that would simplify the process. In this case, the users will be able to make use of the privileged skills that surpasses the expectations of the old learning method. The company can develop effective strategies through which the capacity to perform can be increased. Learning process can be simplified and made effective, as this will help the staffs (Informationpolicy.iu.edu, 2009) Literature Review Dynamic stream of knowledge management is developed in the organizational knowledge development theory and the importance of business is to realize the importance of new knowledge based on the existing knowledge. Organizational knowledge development depends on the content with the organization and explicit knowledge. They play an important role in knowledge creation and encourage promoting employees to be innovative. (Kobielus, 2009) Definitions of knowledge The improvements in knowledge management promote important factors such as superior performance in the organization. The understanding of the term is evolved in the literature where the first concept is associated with management of knowledge as an organizational resource. Knowledge is a mix of experience that offers the framework of new informations and experiences. It can also become the information. (Maches, 2010) The theoretical concept is developed with the major concern of knowledge management and it is an important extension to information management. It describes the decision that combines with external knowledge and internal knowledge is externally marketed. Thus the theory believes continuous management that depends on the intellectual capital that motivates knowledge managers to deal with knowledge exchange among organizational members and other key members. (Perez, 2009) Successful knowledge management strongly depends on organizational behavior and the research imports creativity, innovation, learning and capabilities. (Baskerville Duplipovici, 2006) Data Knowledge Management Retention: Data knowledge management system helps in drafting the best policies through which the knowledge management process can be upgraded. In this case, the company adopts and implements an effective verifying method that will upgrade the skills of the data knowledge management system. Information maintained system helps the company to perform different tasks in the right manner, without comprising with the quality. Data Knowledge Management Systems: Through this method, it is possible to handle the uncertain issues that can impact the performance of the company. The process for imparting, production, and revelation of the information for data management can be simplified. However, the challenges that can impact the performance of the system are with the hierarchy process that has been adopted by the company. This usually happens when there is no acknowledgment system (Otero, et, al, 2010) Data Knowledge Acquisition: The company can make the best use of the data or the knowledge that has been acquired from the suppliers, clients, accomplices, and others. The acquired knowledge can be used for analyzing the type of changes needs to be introduced by the company for improving the quality of services that has been proposed to be provided to the clients. The changes that need to be implemented by the company can be drafted and introduced in the right manner. through this process, it is possible to introduce privileged method or channels that can be used for exchanging the information that would help the firm to develop. In this case, the data knowledge management system has to be incorporated in the best possible manner (Talbot, 2009). In order to use the data management and the knowledge management make use of the below mentioned tools Introducing an effective IT systems Projects Socialization and interaction methods Involving the partners in the execution of different tasks At the time of deciding the data and the knowledge management system, it is necessary to analyses the expectations of the company. This is done with an intention of reusing the information for introducing the changes within the business operational activities. with the help of the sub-section, it is possible to handle different departments in the right manner (Naresh, 2013). Knowledge sharing It is concerned with knowledge development that helps to increase the potential of the organization. The main activities contain knowledge sharing as transmission and absorption. It contains the effectiveness of knowledge use and different means to share knowledge in the organization would be training, problem-solving, discussion, information technology uses etc. (Hulbert, 2014) Through knowledge sharing process, the management develops a link between the know-how implications and its understanding. In this case, the knowledge possessed by different individuals is used for the best purposes. The knowledge is gained through experience and analyzing different situations at the workplace. In this case, the experience, data, values, and other factors are used to assess the relevance of the data. The knowledge of the individual is analyzed, so that the same can be used in the best possible manner In this case, the standards and process that would have to be followed needs to be determined (Roggero, 2013). Information: The information that is collected is analyzed in the form of data, so that the same can be used in the best possible manner. In this process the data are computed and consolidated in the right manner. It is necessary to use the data in the right manner, as this will help in making the right decision. Methods The managerial concerns that are related to the techniques, initiative, or administration task have to be analyzed. Such an analysis is done with an intention of improving the managerial performance that would help in implementing the changes that are required for enhancing the quality of the works. In this method, it is essential to make the best use of the resources that are available in the form of information. The management would be able to collect the data and use the same in the best frameworks. The exploration is done in the form of the behavioral factors, which will help in introducing the changes that are required to make the best use of the data management system (Wayne, 2011). The non-experimental tasks that are considered in the research work have to be experimented. This will help in using the data in the best possible manner. such data will be used for conducting the critical subject exploration that is necessary for the conduct of the research work. With the help of the research routines like the activity check and others the data management system can be best implemented. The hypothesis has to be analyses, as this will help in using the information in the right manner. The valuable information has to be used for the sake of sharing the details and other information with the staffs of the company. Through such process the company can differentiate between the important information. Such strategies would help in selecting the best option that will cater the needs of the management. In some cases, the management might need specialist help that would help in finding the answers to the questions that are considered to be imprint for the management. In case of activity exploration, the company needs to introduce different systems that would improve the quality of the information gathering and other factors. The collected data can be used for improving the quality of tasks that has been planned to be performed by the company. Further the data helps in conducting research work (Dick, 2000). In case of fizzled activities, the learning management frameworks have to be decided. This will help in finding the alternative solutions to the problem that can affect the performance for the company. The issues are identified and the best use of the knowledge management system has been introduced by the company. The research work has been conducted to find the benefits that are associated with the process of introducing the best steps. With the help of the activity exploration method, the company selects the best method for exploring or honoring the data management system (Ankara, 2005). The study also reveals the efforts that need to be introduced for improving the research process. The action that needs to be taken for improving the research work is analyzed. This would help in selecting the better options that will take care of the needs of the company. (Baskerville Wood-Harper, 1996). Research design In this research, the researcher will mainly focus on creating improvements to ensure proper data management and integration. The researcher will follow the methods and analysis of qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative methods are known as scientific method depends on particular questions and interviews. The questions are meaningful for achieving information and other analysis. Quantitative method: This method helps to generate the views and responses for the defined question and the result is also dependent on the data analysis. Questionnaires form the important information. Sample size of the research helps to denote the term reliability and it also measures data collection. The sample size of this research has been taken the 50 numbers. There were 50 respondents for this research analysis and responses. Research questions Does knowledge known as a global success factor? How knowledge management improves the organizational culture and structure? Does knowledge management improve the companys ability and learning? Hypothesis H0: Data and knowledge management improves business performance and creates success in the organization. H1: Data and knowledge management does not improve business performance and does not create success in the organization. Data collection methods The researcher mainly seeks information in accordance to manage the data and knowledge in the organization. The researcher will focus on interviews and other methods to deal with the results and findings. Interviews: It is the face to face perspective that helps to collect the information on the major subject. It is the excellent approach that deals with the information of the respondents. This deals with the major sources of data that leads to success with respect to the research questions and interviews. Questionnaires: Questionnaires develop the primary data to deal with the outcomes that strongly depend on the reliable sources to meet the objectives by the help of questionnaire method. This aims to know the views and information collected by the respondents. The questionnaires are importantly designed with reliable information that offers important conclusion. Therefore, to deal with the interview methods and questionnaires are easy and to get the data collected from respondents is also expensive. Survey method: The most important method of data collection is known well as survey method and the responses from the respondents would be collected either by emails or through face to face interaction. This approach would be the useful approach and there might have enough time to complete this information successfully. These surveys would be completed by companies, employees or other members of the organization. Observation method: This is the critical approach of data gathering that requires important information. It brings successful approach in terms of information and other offers. Validity of the research: The validity of the research is the major critical factor that meets the researcher to be developed in the survey. Every process in the research has met the proper guidelines and the interview that has been gathered with the individual views and opinions offered by the respondents to deal with the research validity. (Brodkin, 2014) Discussion Every research has its shortcomings and limitations. There were limitations with primary and secondary research and the findings based upon the secondary data and primary data. The secondary data involves limitations and the responses of the respondents play an important role when the response of the respondent is positive with respect to research questions and analysis. Conclusion can be developed via primary research methods and questionnaires could be filled directly but due to less amount of time, the research was not successful with reliable information. Therefore the evaluation of the questionnaire is done with the approach of research. Ethics of the research Every research follows some ethics and there are many barriers to deal with the respondents. Research ethics helps to deal with the major roles of the researcher to collect the data and information. The researcher will deal with the ethics that requires to be followed to provide security to the respondents by providing confidential personal informations. The researcher is well known that the ethics has been followed and the respondents are motivated to deal with the valid data and proper information. (Boyd, 2013) Results and findings With the help of observations and interviews, the result will be presented in the form of figures and charts. As per the analysis, it has been found that the data and knowledge management has important benefits such as exchange of information, knowledge acquisition, information, administration management, business performance, innovation and learning as well as capacity. Data and knowledge management With the help of above diagram, the figure identifies the fact as per the research analysis, 50 respondents were extremely satisfied with the data and knowledge management techniques available in the organizations. Sharing of knowledge With the above diagram, it is illustrated that 43 numbers of respondents were extremely satisfied with the sharing of information with data and knowledge management and only 2 respondents were average satisfied with this option. Knowledge acquisition With the help of the above pie chart, the researcher is able to find out that 48 respondents believes knowledge acquisition is the major parameter where the firm is able to gain data and knowledge remotely from clients, suppliers, contenders, accomplices, and mergers. (Sutton, 2009) Information With the help of the above figure, it is found by the researcher that 47 respondents are extremely satisfied with the category that knowledge and data management provides information to the respondents followed with 1 and 2 respondents who were satisfied and average satisfied with the information that is being gathered with data and knowledge management. Administration As per the above represented pie chart, the researcher found that there were 49 respondents who were extremely satisfied with the administration in the business and this generates business performance and creates high value with the data and knowledge management. Thus it has been discussed that there were maximum number of respondents who were extremely satisfied with the approaches known well for data as well as knowledge management. (Popsci.com, 2013) Business performance With the help of above diagram, it has been found that 45 numbers of respondents were highly satisfied with the level of business performance that could be gained through data and knowledge management. 2 respondents believed that they were average satisfied with the fact that business performance could be achieved through data management. Learning and capacity With the help of the diagram above, the researcher believed that 50 respondents were highly satisfied with the parameter known as learning and capacity thus they believed that data and knowledge management could lead to strong learning and high capacity to the organization and its members. Innovation With respect to the diagram above, it has been found that maximum number of respondents was extremely satisfied with the fact that data and knowledge management will help the business to lead to innovation. (Theguardian.com, 2014) Conclusion Data and knowledge management is basically about getting the privilege learning to the privilege individual at the privilege time. This in itself may not appear to be so intricate, however it suggests a solid attach to corporate procedure, understanding of where and in what structures learning exists, making methodologies that compass hierarchical capacities, and guaranteeing that activities are acknowledged and backed by authoritative parts. The attention is on extremely data management abilities, however with specific specializations. Case in point, in his experience inside engineering administration, they ought to have taken off new arrangements and went about as a contact in the middle of business and innovation. Sisyphus Essay Example For Students

Sisyphus Essay The Myth Of SisyphusRyan ClairEnglish LiteratureThe myth of Sisyphus was a paper written by Albert Camus to show that life has no ultimate meaning. This goals of men and woman are false and in the end humans really accomplish nothing. Camus represented his idea of existentialism through the use of Sisyphus. This allows us to see a comparison of a mythical tale and the real world. Albert Camus feeling towards existence was that humans were not supposed to be living in the world. Camus believed that there was a sense of absurdity for human existence. Human beings cannot feel at home in a world where chaos, death, and suffering are present. A world designed for humans would have meaning, life, and order. The world that humans presently lived in was not the real home that they should be in. The world was indifferent to the problems facing humans, thereby making humans living unwanted inside of their own universe. Camus uses Sisyphus as an example of how he believes life on earth is really taking place. Sisyphus is forced to roll the heavy rock up the mountain only to find that it rolls all the way back down and making all his work for nothing. Camus believed that this was similar to human life, through all the activities and events throughout our lives we merely accomplish nothing in the end. We work hard and try to achieve goals, but these goals are meaningless in the whole time that makes up our life. Camus believes that Sisyphus is an absurd hero because he believes that he can succeed which ultimately allows for his punishment. If this myth is tragic, that is because its hero is conscious. Where would his torture be, indeed, if at every step the hope of succeeding upheld him? Camus feels that Sisyphus who is a conscious human being exemplifies the lives of many humans on earth. The people feel that they can succeed and accomplish things during their lives, but in the end they die without ever solving the problems they once faced. This is similar to how Sisyphus would endlessly try to accomplish his goal of getting the rock to the top of the mountain only to have it roll back down again. This absurdity can be understood through the comparison of Sisyphus and the lives of many people living around the world. False goals and events throughout life cloud peoples vision that nothing is truly ever accomplished. Sisyphus was sentenced to life of reaching one goal, which could not be me t, and this was his punishment as is many people doing the same thing on earth. Camus beliefs stemmed from the horrors of World War Two. He saw all the suffering and poverty that he had lived through and been surrounded by. This gave him a basis for existentialism, which created significance behind the choices that a person makes throughout their lives. Camus saw how people were put thrown horrible situations on earth and this gave him the idea that humans were merely put onto the earth without a predetermined life. The choices that humans made no difference to the world, the suffering and injustice was just another choice that was made by a person. The world did not respond but merely went on without having any feedback. Humans tried to apply meaning to life but found that the world did not allow for it. Humans were the only entities that tried to insist on having meaning in their lives. It absurdity makes of fate a human matter, which must be settled among men. .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 , .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .postImageUrl , .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 , .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0:hover , .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0:visited , .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0:active { border:0!important; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0:active , .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0 .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4445c303ca1b1ec8a7fb7d8209e6cde0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Homelessness Is Not An Option EssayCamus feelings of injustice in the world and life without meaning resulted from the problems with himself and surrounding him. The suffering he saw made Camus realize that the world went on while people were living in horrible situations. People were aspiring to unreal goals which meant nothing in the whole face of life. The creation of existentialism resulted from World War Two which gave meaning to the choices that humans made. Although there was no meaning in life, people try to apply meaning to it, while there is really no meaning at all.
